Alcohol and Diabetes : Mix with Good Spirits

Cosmo, Mojito, and Margarita Diabetic Drink Recipes? Really? Yes really.

Along with over 16 million people in the US along who suffer from Adult-Onset Type 2 diabetes we understand first hand the challenges of social drinking when maintaining a diabetic diet. The social stigmas and societal pressures alone are enough to drive us to drink. This rapidly growing group of diseases that challenge us to properly maintain blood sugar levels and be mindful of the serious problems it can cause is paramount in our personal approach to drinking alcohol.

We have done tons of research and would like to share with you some of the better sources we have found for helping us make decisions about drinking alcohol and diabetes. Believe it or not there are actually many different studies that show light to moderate drinking normalized insulin activity among the diabetic participants, showed a decreased risk of heart disease and others that even show light to moderate alcohol consumption lowered the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in the first place.

Still we are cocktail enthusiasts and not physicians. How you choose to drink is an individual decision you should make with your doctor. Good news for us we can imbibe as long as we keep it light to moderate and do not add sugar to our drinks. Even the American Diabetes Association says "If you use mixers in your drinks, choose ones that are sugar free..."

We love cocktails so much we have spent years developing sugar free diabetic friendly drink mixes that have authentic cocktail flavors with no diet aftertaste. We tried others but had difficulty tolerating the bitter diet overtones they gave our drinks.

Making innovative diabetic drink recipes that are delicious as well as low carb and sugar free is easy. Good Spirits mixes really well with club soda or a lemon-lime diet soda if you choose to pass on alcohol or are the designated driver. And there is no need to restrict yourself when choosing only diabetic friendly drinks. Concoct diabetic drink recipes with less carbs, less sugar and low calories with whatever Spirit that moves you. When drinking on a low carb diet, diabetic diet or sugar free diet we encourage you to drink with Good Spirits.
